iSync and a Motorola RAZR V3xx

,
Someone asked me to put together an iSync plugin for the RAZR V3xx. Well, here it is. All I need are some testers.

iSync-2.3 RAZR V3xx phoneplugin Ver 4 [16KB]

Put the PhonePlugins folder in either ~/Library or /Library. Enjoy!

Plugin works great for me except that it does not copy the addresses from my phone to the addressbook application. Numbers and Email works fine, just no addresses... anyone has a suggestion to solve that little problem. In the phone the addresses are declared as private/home address not work or other !!!

Comment from alby:

Hello,

yes addresses sync ok but iCal does not. COuld it be that the folder must go in the other library folder? In fact there ar to identical one under user and one under homw directory.
Moreover, how should I use the folders of people under address? I see that the smart groups don't sync...

Anyway I feel much better than before. Thank you!

Comment from Mark:

Hi,

thanks for this plugin!
What I found out: calendar items with start and ending time fom RAZR will be copied to iCal, but won´t the other way. Start and enddate are identical in iCal after sync.

Birthdays or other repeating events won´t be copied to RAZR.

Names, all telephone nos and email adresses are perfect in sync!

Thank you a lot, Dave!

Comment from Matt:

Thanks a Million, Dave!

I initially had issues placing the Plugin in ~/Library or /Library.

I eventually got it to work by placing "RAZRV3xx.phoneplugin" in:
/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/

Comment from Matt:

To Arwed:
Try placing “RAZRV3xx.phoneplugin” in:
/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/

Comment from Drkfin:

Syncing phonebook works lika a charm for me but calendar synchronization does not work at all. I am using the pluging with MacBook and vanilla V3xx.

Thank you for the plugin. It is very usefull and after calendar synchronization it will allow me to dump my old plain V3.

but thanks you anyway for this wonderful plugin

Comment from Salvo:

The first sincronization was ok (copied everything from addressbook at the phone). If I try to re-sincronize them, isync modifies all the contact and reimports them, so I have 2 times the contacts at the address book.

Any ideas?

P.S: Sorry for my english.
P.S: I placed the “RAZRV3xx.phoneplugin” in:
/Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice//Contents/Plugins

Webmaster said...

Comment from Salvo:

I discover that after the first syncronization, when isync reimports them, the first and last name change their position (first name becomes last, last name becomes first). That's why isync recognize them as new contacts and reimports them.

Any solution?

Comment from John:

.OK on contacts but nothing comes over from iCal to the phone?

Webmaster said...

Comment from John:

But..further info...events created on the phone get back to iCal OK! If it helps maybe it is the iCal sent up of mine - I have multiple calenders (4) and have a numbeer of repeating events. Maybe that is a factor....? Thanks

Comment from Matt D:

The plugin works great, but I cannot get ical events to sync on to the phone...otherwise, so far so good!

YES, strike (as we germans use to say when we imitate english speaking people).

Works very fine for me: copying the ”RAZRV3xx.phoneplugin“-folder to the isync-package as OZ says…

brilliant, thanks!

Comment from Matthew:

Contacts work great for me. Calendar gives me an error each time I try it. I have 1 calendar in iCal I am trying to sync, but no luck so far.

Are there any settings to try in iSync to make it work?

MacBook Pro 17" 10.4.8 with all updates.
syncing via Bluetooth or USB (tried both)

Thank you

Comment from Meredith:

Anyone have a plugin for a Motorola v325 for Mac OS X 10.4.8 so I can get my address book onto my computer??

Thanks!

Comment from Dan Semaya:

Thank you! This plugin works great for syncing contacts. Calendar sync doesn't work but I don't use it anyways. I installed it into the iSync application bundle as described above.

I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that the V3xx also works with BluePhoneMenu even though it is not listed as supported.

Comment from GregorSF:

David's iSync-2.3 RAZR V3xx phoneplugin Ver 4 worked for me. I just got the V3xx yesterday, found it wouldn't sync, searched for and found this solution, and it worked!

How did I do it? I copied the iSync-2.3 RAZR V3xx phoneplugin into this folder:
/Library/PhonePlugins
I didn't make any other modifications.

Great work!

Comment from suckfish:

I had to copy the RAZRV3xx.phoneplugin to /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/ before the plugin worked (OS X 10.4.8). Got my contacts sync'd now - thanks for the plugin!

Comment from bldg13/blog » Blog Archive » A New Phone:

[...] So I had to manually copy each contact from my old SIM card to my new phone. This took some time. Then I tried to sync it with my Mac. No worky. Apple has yet to update iSync to be able to communicate with the RAZR V3xx. A quick google search and I was lucky to find a plugin that would allow OS X to see the phone. It took me awhile to get it working - I spent a lot of time because of a silly mistake - I just placed the plugin in my library folder rather than the supplied folder hierarchy. [...]

Comment from Kevin McDonald:

Right click on iSync and choose, "Show package contents". that should get you there.

Comment from Jason:

Wanted to thank you for producing this plugin. Once I dropped the .phoneplugin directory into the /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/ directory it worked great!

Still some problems with calendar syncing, but contacts are FAR more critical to me.

thanks again!

Comment from rik:

Great plugin! 3 minutes, and I am syncing.

Webmaster said...

Comment from Joe:

iSynch works, updates contacts but does not sync calendar. iSynch has 1 calendar checked for synching. Mac OS 10.4.8. If anyone has gotten iCal calendars to synch as some have indicated it would be helpful to tell us the settings you have set. Plug-in is located in correct location. BTW some have asked if there is a difference between /Library and ~/Library. Yes there is. /Library applies to all users whereas ~/Library is where individual preferences are maintained. In terms of this plug-in it will work in both paths.

Comment from Scott Goldman:

I have had a similar experience - contacts synced to the phone without difficulty (although I don't know yet whether they'll sync in the other direction) but the calendar sync, which I depend on a great deal, does not function at all. While I am most grateful to ClockSkew for writing this plugin at all I would be eternally grateful if it could be reconfigured to handle iCal sync. Not having the calendar on my phone is a great loss to me as I have made a diligent effort to reduce the number of devices I carry and the 3xx could solve many issues - but now I find I need to carry a Palm or my iPod just for the calendar sync.

Comment from Daniel:

This plugin works great for syncing contacts! Thanks a million! I would really like functionality for synching calendars.... You know what they say about beggers' choices :-) CHEERS!

Webmaster said...

Comment from Vincent:

YAY! You all rock. The only thing missing from the directions is you need to completely exit iSync, then copy in the plug in, and then restart iSync. It works like a champ when you do that. (NOTE: I do not have anything in iCal yet, but will try that later)

Comment from Marvin:

I can get the V3xx to *act* like it's synchronizing (even followed all of the instructions placing it in both the iSync contents and copying the folder to it's various locations), but nothing shows up in the address book. I've tried to create a special group for the sync as well as just letting it sync to the main folder. It seems to take FOREVER to do the sync, but again, nothing in the address book.

Ideas? I am using OSX 10.4.9.

Comment from Psymon:

Hi all,

I've removed the phone from the Blutooth device list, downloaded the plugin and followed the instruction to install, then add the phone back to the Bluethooth device list.... but iSync still says "This device is not supported by iSync" when trying to Add Device.

Any idea what I might have done wrong?

I'm running 10.4.9, on an Intel PowerBook.

Thanks in advance.

Would you like help with creating the mechanism to get this plugin to work with iCal better?

Comment from will aldrich:

bravo. this is super useful. thanks a million for making this plugin happen. you've saved me hours of time.

Comment from ryan:

I just picked up a V3xx and cannot get this plug-in to work with 10.4.9. I've tried all of the mentioned tips/tricks and none seem to work for me. Perhaps something in the plug-in refers to an older version of iSync or something along those lines, such that a new install of this plug-in won't work (unless you already had it working prior to the .9 patch)? Thanks for any help with this!

Webmaster said...

Comment from HunkaBurninLove:

To ryan,

I had to do what Jason did....put the .phoneplugin directory into the /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/PlugIns/ directory.

To get there, I did what Kevin MacDonald suggested: Right click on iSync and choose, “Show package contents”.

I've only sync'd once, and so far so good.

Great plug-in. Thanks for the help!

Thanks lots for the plug-in. Works great. For those of us who are waiting, Apple's page on Leopard specifically lists the V3xx as supported by iSync and includes address book and calendar synching. We'll see in a week!

When I click on the "iSync-2.3 RAZR V3xx phoneplugin Ver 4 " link on the plugins page, it just sends me back to the same page. How can I get a copy of this plugin?

does my v3xx need to have other services enabled in order to work with the plug in?

I have ATT service with a v3xx and with the usb cable isync will not find the phone. I have put the plug in into all the listed locations in this thread.

Is there a working link to this plugin still?

http://clockskew.com/stuff/RAZRV3xx-PhonePlugins-Ver4.zip

doesn't work :(

Peter said...

found a link that works as of 11/29/08

http://www.faqintosh.com/risorse/common/ecg/222/it/V3xx.zip

Sal said...

Peter's link above still works as of 2010/12/10. I unzipped and put in /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/Plugins and got it working on my unlocked Cingular v3xx. Connected with a plain old mini-USB cable (make sure to set your USB mode to "Data Connection" as opposed to Storage Card, "Print" or anything like that.

On my wife's Macbook (Snow Leopard 10.6.5) I tried putting the plugin in /Applications/iSync.app/Contents/PlugIns/ApplePhoneConduit.syncdevice/Contents/Plugins (since there were a bunch of files with the same extension in there).

That also worked, but also un-greyed the options for calendar sync. However, I did not see any events on the phone's calendar app when I looked. Not sure if she had any events in iCal though.

Thanks to the author of the plugin! Works like a charm! Let me know if you want me to host the file in the future.

Thanks Sal/Peter it works with my Motorola v3 on Snow Leopard.
